The master is an utter and complete lunatic. He has genocidal tendencies and he doesn’t care who gets in his way. His favorite plaything… is The Doctor. He loves nothing more than to mess with his mind, mostly because he threw him in a black hole and has denied the existence of the drums for hundreds of years. The Master can be a vengeful git who will stop at nothing to get back at those who have wronged him even if that wrong is imagined. Most of his personality issues stem from the Drums that constantly echo within the vaults of his deranged and yet brilliant mind. He doesn't completely hate The Doctor, but it is more of a like/hate relationship. He could never kill him but he loves to cause him pain, just like he has felt.

History:

In the beginning when he was but a child of eight, The master and The Doctor were friends. But all that changed on the fateful day that they were forced to look into the time vortex itself. The Doctor ran from its awesome power, but The Master stayed; burning itself into his mind. It when then that the drums started. However little did he know that the drums were not caused by the vortex, but by the most sinister plot of Lord President Rassilon. He would not learn of this for almost 900 years of pain, suffering, ridicule, and insanity.

After The Doctor had fled from the crimes he had committed on Gallifrey, Koschei was sent out to find and capture him. There he lost all of the goodness that remained within him thanks to the Darkheart device. The Doctor trapped him within a black hole and it was there that Koschei swore his vengeance upon the outlawed time traveler.

The Doctor and The Master have collided many times within their long lives however the most recent events occurred at the end of the universe where he had fled and used a Chameleon Arch that stored his biological information as well as memories within a small handheld fob watch that contained a perception filter. This turned him into an old human Professor by the name of Yana. This incarnation is how he survived the Time War.

After many countless years Professor met The Doctor in his tenth incarnation and his companion Martha Jones, and Captain Jack Harkness. It was Martha who brought the fob watch to his attention and it was because of this that he opened it, regaining all that he had lost. He then stole The Doctor’s Tardis and took it back in time leaving The Doctor, Martha, and Captain Jack Harkness stranded.

The Master became prime Ministry and married Lucy. During this time The Doctor and his Children of Time managed to make it back thanks to Jacks time agency travel device. But The Master captured them and Martha’s family. With the help of the Toclafane, The Master almost succeeded in destroying most of mankind. But in the end The Master was killed by a gunshot wound from his wife Lucy… a wound he refused to regenerate and he then died in The Doctor’s arms. This ring was found by one of his devoted followers of the Disciples of Saxon, an evil cult of worshippers that thought him almost a god.

The Master was then brought back to life thanks to the Disciples of Saxon but it was his wife Lucy that destroyed their plans in part by killing herself with the Potion of death. He was not fully destroyed however and he managed to survive but at the expense of most of his life-force. He was captured and made to repair the Immortality Gate; however after its completion he used it to make The Master Race, a race of humans that had all turned into him.

The Master managed to bring back the Time Lords with the use of a Whitepoint star; but when he discovered that it was they who had caused his suffering for his entire life he sacrificed himself so that The Doctor might survive as well as the Earth and humanity. He was also pretty ticked off and just wanted to beat the crap out of the Lord President that did it to him.

But he did not die. He traveled back to Gallifrey and the time of the Time Wars and there he stole a set of Time Rings and escaped. Once again he used his fob watch to lose himself into a half normal life of humanity for a time…

Roleplay Sample:

Thump, thump, thump, thump… the sound raged through his mind. Thump, thump, thump, thump… a never ending beat. Thump, thump, thump, thump… no end and no beginning. Thump, thump, thump, thump… this is what he heard every day, every hour, every second of his life. Thump, thump, thump, thump… but who’s life? There was something that he could not quit remember. It was something important, of that he was sure. Thump, thump, thump, thump… it wouldn’t stop and it made his mind scream in pain. Thump, thump, thump, thump… it was hard to think… to concentrate on what he was trying to remember.

It was an old, broken and unattractively old relic he held within his hands. Something from his father perhaps? He couldn’t remember, but then again he could barely remember his father. One of his students had asked him about it today and something about it nagged at him. He had never thought about it before. But now he could see it. Its odd etched designs engraved into a metallic surface. Something whispered from the dark. It was calling, and the drumming grew louder. It hurt, that endless noise in his head; so much more than before.

He sat there, the professor, professor of science at the university. A glass of scotch in one hand and the old watch in the other, he looked down at it, fingers absently tracing those designs as he sat in his office. It was pitch outside. Long had the students been gone from this place; but here he sat in silent contemplation. But the silence was misleading. The drumming was always with him and now, voices whispered.

Music thumped from somewhere outside his office window, a group of students rushed passed. Probably up to no good in the dead of night. Laughter rang in his ears, the laughter of students outside and a much darker and sinister voice from within his very own head. It disturbed him and caused him a small amount of fear. He was sure that he was finding himself falling within the dark endless realms of insanity. Slipping away into a dark, twisted, and forbidden place within his very own mind.

He studied that watch, it didn’t work. Of that detail he was sure. But how did he know? What was missing? Draining his glass he slipped it away into the dark recesses of a deep desk drawer and walking from the room and outside into the night air. It helped to clear his head, but just a little.

Thump, thump, thump, thump… what is it? What was in his head? That sound. He stood there in the night listening and then he walked; his fingers still tracing those symbols. He stopped, passersby gave him odd looks, but he was use to odd looks. He was also use to people telling him he looked like one of the past Prime Ministers. It was a running joke with many of his students. He stopped again and he looked down and lifted the watch to his face. So clearly he could see it and something whispered to him. Fingers found the clasp that held the device closed and then… click…

Golden light poured out from the small enclosure, consuming him within its glow. He let out a scream and a howl of pain. Clamping his hands to his head and falling to his knees. Thump, thump, thump, thump… it was unbearable. Long ago memories rushed over him and screams issued from him relentlessly. He didn’t want to remember. He didn’t want to hear the accursed drums. He grew angry, rage coursed through him. If he was forced to listen to these drums then everyone would. The plain was s simple, so genius. Everyone would hear them, and then he would not be alone.

He lay there on the pavement panting and practically clawing at his head. Passersby give him a wide berth. Finally he stood upon trembling legs, howling and screaming in manic fury; his eyes gone mad and a look of utter deranged insanity upon his face.
